Avoiding Plagiarism and Citing Sources of Information

To cover the basics of academic honesty, this workshop will show you how plagiarism can easily be avoided in research and studies with different examples of using information ethically. Proper methods in writing citations in research papers and assignments will also be demonstrated.


Learning RefWorks – the Web-based Bibliographic Management Tool

RefWorks is an online research materials manager that can help you manage and store the information resources that you need for your coursework and research. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to create an account, export and import references and citations, organize references into folders, insert in-text references and create a bibliography in APA or other citation styles into a Word document by using a software tool, Write-N-Cite. You will also be introduced to ProQuest Flow, a cloud-based version of RefWorks.


Finding Dissertations

Find out how you can locate dissertations and theses effectively from local and international universities that are relevant to your research work by using both Library and web resources. Database research skills for writing literature reviews will be presented, covering both English and Chinese language materials.


Locating News Resources

Learn how to use the Library’s e-newspapers databases including WiseNews, South China Morning Post, Factiva, and other Internet resources to locate news articles.


Citation Searching and Journal Rankings

Demonstrate how to use research evaluation tools such as InCites Journal Citation Reports, Social Sciences Citation Index, Scopus and Academic Citation Index (學術引用文獻資料庫) to identify and compare the status, citation frequency and impact of journals and articles for research evaluation.


Finding Hong Kong History

Other than the information available at the library collection, what else can you search for Hong Kong history? This workshop shows you where to go in the Internet.


Using Google Effectively for Academic Research

Learn how to master Google and unleash its power as a research tool for quality academic resources in the Web. Join this workshop and get hands-on practice for searching scholarly literature using Google, Google Book, and Google Scholar and how to integrate Google Scholar with RefWorks and other Library-subscribed electronic resources seamlessly.
